WORMS IN SHEEP.

Sheep breeders were a little startled about a month ago on publication of the fact that a mistake bad been made in an official notification in respeot of the treat* ment of sheep for worms. Instead of curing, the medicine, if given as prescribed wtoald have the effeot of killing the recepient, Mr. John D. Ritchie, chief inspector of stock for New Zealand, has therefore issued tbe following notification : — " I hav.e to request that you will kindly correct an error in tbe quantity of arsenic prescribed for lambs, as per tabulated 6tatement on page 6 of tbe pamphlet on tbe Treatment oi Sheep for Worms reoently issued by this department, whioh was reprinted from tbe New South Wales Agricultural Gazette. It should read, — For 1000 lambs, 2£oz. of arsenio instead of 3£oz. ; for 500 lambs, lfoz. of arsenio instead of lfoz. ; for 50 lambs, O&oz. of arsenic instead of 7-40oz. This department does not, however, recommend the use of arsenic for drenching, but tbe prescription as given in page 4, viz, — 1 part spirits of turpentine to 2, parts raw linseed oil or new milk. And of this mixture give, fasting — 1 to 3 tablespoonfuls for a lamb ; 2to 4 tablespoonfuls for a weaner ; 3to 6 tablespoonfuls for a fullgrown sheep- To be given three times at au interval of seven days.
