Prohibition League Meeting.
The monthly meeting of the Hawera Prohibition League took place last evening. The attendance was moderate) owing to the inclemency of the weather. Rev. Mr. McGregor took the chair. The balanoe-sheet was held over till next meeting. An address was given by the Rev. Mr. Jones, who is about leaving this colony as a missionary to Africa. He supported Prohibition, and heartily wished that it could be extended to Africa. The following ladieß were appointed a committee to canvass for funds to distribute tbe Prohibitionist free : — Mrs. Veatß, Misß Alexander, Miss Maonder, Mrs. Hnsfcoa. The Rev. Mr. Hammond drew tbe attention of the league to tbe behaviour, ribald eongs, and bad language indulged in by tbe boys returning from the football matoh at Patea, whioh, he said, was evi> dently caused by strong drink. Mr. Blackball also wished the Booiety to protest against the desecration of the Sabbath by the playing oi cricket in tbe cricket ground. He also said the language used by those doing so was disgraceful. It was resolved that the next meeting of the society be an " Inoident meeting," each member relating some incident bearing upon the Prohibition question. — [Communicated.]
