MANAIA TOWN BOARD.

(FBOM OUB MANAIA COBRESPONDENT.) The ordinary monthly meeting was held on Wednesday evening, when there were present Messrs. Philip McCarthy (acting chairman) Ghas. McCarthy, and John Milroy, the latter taking his seat for the first time. A county rate of $ d and town §d was levied payable on the Ist December. The meeting to confirm resolution to be held on the 11th November. The estimated receipts were — available balance £100, rents £15, rates £85, total £150. Expenditure—Salaries £16 10s, expenses £4, advertising and printing £7 10s, gravelling and repairs £72, contingencies £50 ', total. £150. Resolved, That the poundkeeper's resignation be accepted as from the 19th Ootober inst., and that Mr. Oowern be requested to forward to the clerk a state* ment of accounts to that date, together with all books and papers relating to the business of the pound. (P. McCarthy — Milroy.) Eeaolved, That the clerk audit the accounts of the poandkeeper (P. McCarthy — Milroy). Resolved, That the clerk make inquiries with a yiew of ascertaining particulars of any suitable sates there may be in the market for sale (Milroy — P. McCarthy). Resolved, That notice be given that applications for the office of poundkeeper will be received until 7.30 on Wednesday, 21st inst., at the office of the board ; con* ditions as before (Milroy — C. MoOarthy). Resolved, That tenders be called for the supply of gravel, for repairs only, for a period of one year from the acceptance of tender, tenders to close on the 21st isst. (Milroy P. MoCarthy.) Mr. Milroy gave notice that be would move at the next ordinary meeting that the resolution dated 20th November, 1889, r$ advertising, be rescinded. Mr. Milroy said he intended, if that motion were carried next month,, to move that the advertising be given to the Witness, except where the board from time to time decided otherwise. Transfer of M. Gall's leasehold section in block ix. to P. Tarrant was agreed. Reßolved, That at the time the Manaia road, north, is being repaired the footpath on the east side as far as the Wesleyan and Catholio Churches be weeded and generally repaired. Also footpath on west side fronting blook 6 to be formed and gravelled six feet in width. (Milroy — P. McOartLy.) Resolved, in compliance with request of Mr. Wilton that section 6, blook xviii., be let at £1 a year on a tenancy terminable on six months notice. The committee's report acoepting R. Butler's tender for contract 56 at £16 10s was adopted. Mr. O. MoCarthy complained that the clerk bad sent him no notioe of the board's meeting. — It was explained to Mr. McCarthy that there bad only been a com-<-mistee meeting, and that that had been arranged by the chairman while Mr. MoCarthy was present Resolved, that a letter be Bent asking Mr. Stewart if he could make it convenient to wait upon the board at its next meeting as to seeing what terms he would be agreeable to undertake the supervising and laying out of new works for the board. (Milroy— P. McCarthy.) Resolved, That any two members with the assistance of the . clerk • prepare the specifications for the gravel contract (C. McCarthy—P. McCarthy). Resolved, That the accounts (as follow) be passed subject to Mr. Patterson's and Mr. Davy'B being certified toi also Mr. Butler's account for gravel, and that Mr. Stewart be asked if he would certify to Mr. Butler's road contracts in time for the special meeting (Milroy— P.
