Mr. KNOTT.
| Mr. Enott had a very euccessfal meet* ing in the Town Hall, Normanby, on Tuesday night, a large number of yonng men and women being present. Last night Mr. Enott gave a lecture in the Methodist Church, Hawera. The attend* ance was not so good as could bave.been desired. The lecture was listened to with the closest attention to tbe end. To-night Mr. Enott will recite Lord Tennyson's " Enoch Arden," one of tbe most beantifnl and pathetic poems in tbe English lan* guage. The Napier Evening News, criticising Mr. Knott's recital' of it, says : — 11 To one reading the poem much is lost of the tender and pathetic elements of the piece. Those whohave only read of the patience of Philip Bay and of the faithful, yet pro* yoking, attitude of Annie, Enoch's wife, would pass over them as matters not worthy of particular notice, bat to hear Mr. Enott, who has studied the poem with great care and reproduced it in all its beauty, is quite a different thing." Songs illustrative of different parts of the poem are to be given by a special choir.
