NORMANBY.

More interest has been taken this year in the election of a School Committee than formerly, as was shown by the larger number of householders who attended the meeting — about 25. Mr. C. Paine was voted to the chair. The report of the retiring committee was read by the chairman, Mr. Sinley, who has served in that capacity during the last five or six years. Some discussion followed tbe reading of the report between the chairman and Mr. Walker, who expressed dissatisfaction with the manner of the committee's appointment of a cadet. No new information waß, however, elicited, and the report was accordingly adopted by the meeting. Before the nominations of new members took place, Mr. McKeever rose to make a few remarkß as to what the public looked for from a now committee. Among other tbingß he mentioned a few simple gymnastic articles, such as swings, etc., and above all a shelter shed for the school children during wet or cold weather. Mr. McKeever, however, declined to allow himself to be nominated.

All the members of the retiring committee, except one, declined to allow themselves to be nominated.

Nine householders were proposed, and, after ballotting, the following seven were declared duly elected: — Messrs. 0. Paine, Casey, Meredith, A. Payue, Pipe, Walker, Bates.

Before the meeting dispersed, Mr. Rowe rose to enlist the sympathies of those present in favor of a night fioliool. There were, he said, in the township an

unusual number of lads from about 15 to 20, who would be glad to avail themselves of a little more schooling had they opportunity to do so. Several present promised to assist in getting the required number of pupils to enroll themselves, and it was arranged to bring up the matter again. At a subsequent meeting of the newlyelected committee, Mr. O. Paine was elected chairman.
