SYDNEY, February 2.

Cardinal Moran has replied to the allegations of Dr. Thornton, Bishop of Ballarat, relative to the part played by tbe Roman Catholics in tbe centennary celebrations. His Eminence denies tbat grace was not said in order to please the Catholics. It was expected tbat the Governor would pronounce it, but it seems tbat no arrangement was made for it. He also states that the Catholic party did not dominate, and he purposely restricted tbe number of those present at tbe Jubilee function to three, though a great number of prelates were in Sydney for special Catholic services.

Mr. Thos. Garrett, Minister for Lands, replying to a resolution passed by the Stock Board delegates, on the rabbit question, said that the Government had accepted a tender for SSO miles of fencing on the South Australian border, but great difficulty had been experienced in obtaining the necessary material. The Queensland fence would be completed in about two inonthß. He remarked that they could not see their way to adopt M. Fas-

teur's dabions remedy. The Government's policy was to encourage landholders to combat tbe scourge by means of fencing, which he found, during his visit to New Zealand, to be the most efficacious preventative there.

A heavy gale was experienced here today. A roof was blown off the new stand at the Show grounds, and other considerable damage was done.

The combined Australian team which plays against Lillywhite's team to-morrow only includes McShane and Waddall outside of New South Wales players.

PARIS, February 1.

The French and Turkish Governments have decided to appoint commissioners to enquire into the Damascus "incident."
