NEW SOUTH WALES CENTENNARY.

SYDNEY, January 26.

The Harbor illuminations took place this evening, and formed a grand spectacle. Tho bay was lit up with the electric light shown from the squadron and other vessels, nnd there was a continuous soar of rockets, which were fired from all points in the harbor.

SYDNEY, Jannary 27.

Lord Carrington has received a congratulatory cable from the Queen, which was read at the banquet amidst cheers. Sir Henry Parkes presented Lord Carrington with the first centennial medal struck, and each of the other Governors is to be presented with one. Sir William Fitzberbert, on behalf of New Zealand, offered congratulations, and regretted the unavoidable absence of the New Zealand Ministers. The banquet was a most brilliant affair, and lasted till midnight.

SYDNEY, January 27.

The centennial regatta, which took place to-day, on the Paramatta course, was a brilliant success. The day was very fine, with a fresh breeze blowing. His Excellency the Governor and party, accom-

panied by most of the distinguished visitors in the city, went on board the flagship. The senior four-oared outrigger race was won by the Sydney .Bowing Club. The sculling race was won by Peter Kemp (Hawkesbury) ; "W. Hearn (New Zealand), second ; and C. Nelson (Sydney), third.

The international band contest was commenced to-day. A large number of bands are competing.

The city is again brilliantly illuminated to»night, but a strong wind| seriously interferes with it being seen at its best.
