MANAIA TOWN BOARD.

. ~» (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The ordinary monthly meeting of the above board was held on Wednesday, January 25tb. Present— Messrs. J. R. Stewart (chairman), Lewis, Bayly, and Qilmouv. DOG TAX. Resolved, That the dog tax for 1888 be 5s for sporting dogs and 2s 6d for dogs kept solely for the management of live stock, payable on Ist February. (Stewart — Qilmour.) Tbe bank balance was reported as credit, .£l2O 18s 4d. BATHING DAM. Mr. Lewis brought ap hia report on the practicability and cost of constructing a dam oa tbe recreation reserve. He thought it could be made for £10 to give a depth nine feet. Messrs. Philip McCarthy and Dawson attended as a deputation representing a number of townspeople, and urged tbe advisablenesa of spending a few pounds out of the moneys received as rent from tbe domain. Resolved, That the Town Board advance by way of loan to the Domain Board tbe Bum of £10 to construct a bathing place in the domain. (Lewis — Stewart.-) Mr. Bayly moved that the matter be held over until sufficient funds are available from the Domain Board rent, but there was no seconder. In about twelve months the loan will be returned. KAUAE STREET. Besolved, That Kauae-street be gravelled at tbe bad places near Mr. McGovern's. (Bayly — Lewis.)
