WAIMATE ROAD BOARD.

(FROM OUR MANAIA CORRESPONDENT.) The ordinary ■ meeting of the above board was held on Wednesday, 25th Jan. Present — Messrs. Parsons (in the, chair), Heslop, Godsal, Mitchell, and.LeFleming. AHAIPAIPA ROAD. Mr. Raikes, who resides on the Skeet road, at the top of Ahaipaipa road, attended, and asked that the sum of £61 be spent on Ahaipaipa road.

1 Resolved, That £61 accruing from, sec. 12, block xvi., Kaupokonui, be handed over to the county, when received, for expenditure on upper Ahaipaipa road, as desired by the selector. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. Colonial Treasurer, intimating that Government would not pay any rates on Crown and native lands after the 31st March next. Commissioner of Crown Lands, intimating that the sum of £91 3s 2d stood at the credit oi the board. (The Engineer said he had made up a supplementary plan of expenditure for this amount.) Waitara Harbor Board, circular intimating that the board intended resisting the New Plymouth harbor rate. J. Alexander, informing the board that he had transferred his contract to Fred Kelly and T. Wbitmore. Hawera County Council, asking for debits and credits on each county road, also statement showing all deferred payment moneys accrued to those roads, and debts on account of deferred payment or ordinary revenue, and the estimated amount to be received on each up to the end of 10 years from the taking up of the sections. Premier, intimating that £20 had been voted for opening ud a tra«k to Egmont via Dawson's Falls.— Resolved, That £5 be spent in making a clearing near Dawson's Falls, and the balance in improving the tracks, and that the engineer have the work done at once. (Heslop— Godsal.) ROLL TRANSFERS. Robert Coxhead to Robert Coxhead, junior; Robert to George Coxhead; Robert to William Coxhead; William to Isabella Muir Coxhead; William to Robert Coxhead, junior ; Robert, jnr., to John Coxhead. DEFERRED PAYMENT MONEYS. Mr. Mitchell moved, That the chairman take legal steps to compel the Land Board to pay over to this board the • January, 1887, instalments of deferred payment moneys. He contended that this board should receive the moneys, as the Act says that the local authority having charge of the roads shall receive the thirds. The Land Board has intimated that it has withdrawn all the moneys for roads abutting on county roads, although up to the end of March, 1887; this board had control of those roads. TOTARA. Resolved, That the engineer arrange for a supply of to tar a for culverting. (Parsons — Godsal.) HOKORIMA ROAD. Resolved, That a sum not exceeding £15 be spent out of native rates on the Hokorima between the Waingongoro and the Hastings Road. (Heslop — Mitchell.) engineer's report. The following is the engineer's report, which was adopted : — Rowan Road — Felling let privately at 45s per acre, as no tenders were received at last meeting. Hunter Road — Felling, stumping, and clearing above Eltham Road let privately at 17s per chain. Palmer Road — There is some bush standing on the road line, and originally passed under Government supervision. Have let the felling to Irving for £2. Sutton and Back have thrown up contract for culverting, etc., owing to difficulty in obtaining timber. Rama Road — Maoris have scrubbed about a mile at 9d per chain : but do not burn it. Stuart Road — Recommended: That work in Block IX., Ngaiie, be proceeded with at once. Advertising — As board has directed that cost of advertising should be reduced as much as possible, this month's notice only refers ia general terms to about fourteen contracts. (Several members said that it was a mistaken policy to cut down advertising very much as far as tenders were concerned.) Duthie Road — Surfaceman will spend a few days scrubbing and logging, as other labor is unobtainable. Upper Auroa Road — Scrubbing has been done southward of Mr. Proudlock's property. Specifications have been drawn for ditch along Mr. Henson's land. Upper Glenn Road — Value of work done by settlers referred to in last report should have been £2, not £3. Tenders called for gravelling about tour chains. Upper Hastings Road — Am endeavoring to arrange for another 34 chains felling 1 and stumping above the Opunake track. Landowners on road have been requested to fell strip along frontage. Lower Stuart and Neill Road's Grossing — Have arranged to meet foreman of Hawera Road Board with respect to fixing place of ford. Inaha Tempsky Ford — Arranged for a few loads of gravel to improve crossing. Urgent Works — Recommends : Patiki Road, stumping and gravelling ; Mangawbero Road, stumping and ditching; Stuart Road, bridge approaches ; Upper Rowan, labor, stumping, and repairing; Rama Road, clearing old ditch and improving roadway; Norman by Beach Road, gravelling bad parts ; Skeet Road, stumping near Kapuni. Cattle on Roads — Cattle are allowed to stray on several roads, and do a great amount of damage by trying to get at water. (The Chairman thought the engineer or any member of the board who knew of cattle trespassing should at once give information to the ranger.) Town Hall — Have procured an estimate of cost of lining building to the level of top sills of windows. Net receipts from Hall for past year were £11. (Resolved, That about £12 be spent.) SCRUBBING ACCOUNTS. Resolved, That all scrubbing accounts be paid out of rates. (Heslop — Godsal.) BURGON ROAD. Resolved, That cuttings and ford be let by tender. (Mitchell — Heslop.) HUNTER ROAD. Resolved, Tbat the deposit of Sutton and Back be forfeited, and that Irving's tender, being the next lowest, be ao« cepted. OEO ROAD. Resolved, That tenders be called for drawing, stumping, gravelling and earthwork. (Godsal — LeFleming.) TENDERS.
