THE ODDFELLOWS' BALL

Notes from the Gallery.

Last year the Oddfellowe' annual ball was not held, but this year they decided upon having one, and it turned out that they were not mistaken' in their views re the pleasure going members of the public. For some time before the musio started the gallery was crowded, and, although many of the dancers were a little late, still the ball was both socially and financially a success. Messrs Smart, Johnson, and A. Woodhead attended to the music, and the combination of the three instruments was a great improvement. To answer who was belle would be rather a difficult question. A lady in pale pink draped with white net would have at once had the honor were it not for another very pretty dress of cardinal and cream : either of these costumes might be worn in any ball-room, and looked remarkably well. Cardinal, with overskirt of coffee lace, was worn by one lady and was much admired, as was a pink dress with cream lace. A cream skirt with black bodice looked very becoming, as also did a pale pink with overskirt of white lace. Another very pretty costume was a cream dress with ruby trimmings. White with pink was worn also. Several white dresses were looped with different colored ribbons. The dancing, it was observed by many in the gallery, was very good, in fact it was said there was not a bad dancer in the room. The pretty regalia belonging to the Hawera lodge was not seen ; it was in charge of the secretary, who happened to be away. The society to be congratulated upon the success of their ball.
