WELLINGTON, November 4.

Iv tbe Municipal Conference to-day, tbe conference disapproves of the principle of clause 7 and 8 in the Auctioneer's Bill, a deputation from the conference will wait on the Premier to-morrow, to lay the resolution of the conference before the Government.

The following suggestions from the Napier council were considered : — (1.) Tbe necessity of allowing corporations to apply a fund derived from one reserve to tbe improvement of other reserves in the same municipality. (2.) The necessity of further providing for the state of land to secure payment of rates. (3.) A provision for allowing municipalities to take over private streets although the same may not comply with the present requirements as to the width of streets. (4.) To provide that proceeds of rates for special pur* poses such as water rates may be devoted to general purposes when any loan may have been raised for Buch purpose has been paid off. (5.) To move for the amendment of Municipal Corporations Act so that boroughs shall elect their own auditors, if so desired. No. 1 and 2 were agreed to, and in reference to No. 3, the Conference did not desire to alter the Act in the direction named, bat recommend in special cases that application be made to the House for redress No. 4. After some discussion it was lost, and No. 5 was carried. The question as to the desirableness ot establishing a permanent Municipal Association was referred to the various Municipalties. The Conference then closed.

At tbe B.M. Court on Friday, Alfred Sherwood, alias Livingston, was brought before Messrs. Major and Nolan, Justices, charged with larceny as a bailee of a colt, the property of Edward Growdin, of Normanby. He was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labor.

Mr. W. G. White has been appointed one of the trustees to arrange with Mr. Oldham in reference to the bonus gusrantee. A meeting of the committee will be held at Patea to-morrow (Saturday). There was a sum of about £240 required on Wednesday. About a dozen gentlemen guaranteed this amount jointly, and will canvass with a view to obtaining this ram.

We understand that Mr. McGuire's solicitor has advised him that those grounds for his petition against Major Atkinson, which are the strongest, are barred by time, and the evidence in favor of those which are not barred is insufficient to warrant him in proceeding. We further understand that Mr. Barton's departure by mail train on Tuesday had no connection with Mr. McGuire'a petition.

Nolan, Tonks and Co., sell sundries, furniture, &c, by auction to-morrow.

Budge and McCutchan advertise entries for stock sale at Oeo on Tuesday.

Mr. G. Howe, proprietor of the Commercial Hotel, solicits continuance of patronage bestowed upon that favorite hostelry 1 Mr. G. V. Bate has been appointed agent for the Phoenix Fire Office, vice Mr. M. D. King, resigned. The Company offer absolute security, with prompt arid liberal dealings with clients.

We shall publish to-morrow, on our fourth page, Mr. Hurley's form of instructions and authority for the disposal of land. This is intended by Mr. Hurley as a ready means for those having land for themarket of communicating their instructions to him.
