TOWN BOARD MEETING.-

The ordinary monthly meeting of the board was held on Wednesday evening 12th inst.', nt 8 p.m. There were present — Messrs. Newman (in the chair), Breach, Rogers, and McGregor. Correspondence was read from the Geraldine Town. The question of making by laws re hawkers, of which notice had been given, was discussed, the majority of members" present being in favor of such by-laws. Resolved, That a special meeting of the board b.e, held .on Monday, 316t inst., at 8 p.m., at the board's office, to frame bylaws, in respect of pedlars and hawkers, in accordance with the Municipal Corpora ations Act, 1886. The mover proposed that hawkers with^a basket should pay £1, two-wheeled vehicle £5, four-wheeled vehicle £7 10s. It was resolved to frame by-laws in respect of prevention of ntes, such as foul chimneys taking fire, at the same, meeting. Resolved, That the chairman and Mr. Rogers prepare estimates of revenue and expenditure for the 12 months ending 31st March, 1888.

With regard to the position of the road to the flax mill, it was agreed that the Chief Surveyor be written to, requesting him to allow Mr.Skeet to mark the road off. A letter was directed to be sent to the School Commissioners, re spreading of goree from boundary sections of sctions 1 and 3. block 26. Resolved, That the footpath be continued from Middleton's towards the cliff on the east side of Havelock*street, and that the Worka Committee be empowered to call for tenders for the work. Accounts to the amount of £39 10s 7d were passed for payment, which left an available balance of £106 14a 4d. October 13.
