EGMONT ELECTION.
To the Editor of the Star.
Sir, — As you state that you are willing to publish both sides of the political, I ask you to insert the following clipping taken Irom the Canterbury Times of the 16th ult. : — "A candidate for political honours, 1 Mr. Stead of Christcharch. has began his first campaign by attacking the honesty of tbe two opposing leaders, Sir R. Stout and Major Atkinson. Place and salary, he says, are their motto. Now it happens that the Premier has beeu a heavy loser pecuniarily by politics, and this is the first time any word has been breathed against biß motives. As for Major Atkinson, we bavo always opposed the politician, but we have never concealed our high opinion of the man. It is tbe universal opinion of all wbo know him that the Major's life of Aevoiioa to military and civil duty is ho honour to him, and an irresistible claim to the distinction of knighthood at the bands of his sovereign. Cheap sneers of new men anxious to be employed in the public service will not barm either the Premier or his opponent."— l am, Ac, Elector No. 2.
