MISCONCEPTION CORRECTED.

To the Editor of the Star.

Sir, — With your permission, I wish to ask electors, through your paper, before giving credit to Mr. A. C. Milne's statement that Major Atkinson deliberately stated in the House of Representatives that his constituency was unanimous in fuvor of being rated for the New Plymouth Harbor Loan, to take the trouble to hunt up Hansard, of the 7th September, 1882, and read what he really did say; and they will very soon see that Mr. Milne is laboring under a misconception, and that there is no foundation for it, in fact. Further they will see that Major Atkinson's defence of the harbor being proceeded with is much more to bis credit than our opposition was to U6, allowing that our opposing did a great deal of good. It is a great pity that Mr. Milne should have been led to make such statements ; for, let him be assured, when he finds ie necessary to come forward as a candidate in the interest of the Egmont electors, he will find that this inaccuracy has seriously detracted from his reliance. — I am, &c, M. Hunter.
