No. 3.] OBDER PAPEB. MONDAY, 4th JULY, 1887. NOTICES OF MOTION. No. I— Dr. Chilton to move — (1) That, in the opinion of this House, the expenditure on behalf of the . Governor, Government Offices, Legislative Council, Legislature, Departmental Offices, and Educational requirements are not in accordance with the needs of the Colony, and are far in excess of the means of the ratebearing population of New Zealand ; (2.) that the increased rate of Minis* terifll expenditure is inconsistent with the present revenue of the Coltny. No. 2 — Mr. Prichabd to move — That, in the opinion of this House— (l) The time has arrived when New Zealand should provide for the adequate protection of her shores by a Naval Squadron ; (2) to this end a convention with the Imperial Government Ehould be concluded whereby the Imperial Government will provide and maintain (cay) two cruisers of the "Archer" type, fully equipped with crews and armaments, for exclusive service in New Zealand waters, at an annual charge to New Zealand of not exceeding £28,000. No. I—Adjourned1 — Adjourned debate on amendment proposed on the question — 11 That, in the opinion of this House, the Rood government of Ireland, the wellbeing of its population, and the real Union between Great Britain and Ireland can only be secured by the creation of an Irish Legislature and Irißh Execntive for the responsible control and management of snch affairs as the Imperial Parliament will define to be distinctly Irish ;" which amendment was to leave out after " that," in order to insert the following words :— " This House, jealous for the maintenance of the Colony's right of self-government free from interference by any other Legislature in the Empire, and being of opinion that the surest method ol "preserving its own rights is to respect the rights of others, resolves as follows : ' That this House will not, foi its part, interfere with other Legislatures in the Empire ' and express uninvited opinions upon any question, for the settlement of which any other : -Legislature is alone responsible; further, this House regrets that tha Premier should have submitted such a motion as that before the House' " —instead thereof-!
