Dairy Factory at Eltham
There was, we are informed, a very large meeting ot, settlers at Eltbam on Thursday evening, in response to Mr. Chew Gbong's advertisment. requesting those interested in starting a dairy factory to meet him. Mr Kenah was voted to the chair, and Mr. Chew Ohong placed bis proposals before the meeting. These briefly stated that settlers should guarantee to supply him with milk at 2£d per gallon during tbe six summer months, and at 3d per gallon during tbe six winter months ; skim milk to be returned at Id per gal. A very long discussion took place on various features of the proposal, and it was finally arranged, on the motion. of Mr. Godkin, seconded by Mr. Mabey, that tbe agreement should be modified, so that while the terms as to 2£d during tbe summer months and 3d during ' -the winier .months, should' be retained, the. skim milk should be returned at $d •iper gallon. Milk of about 250 cows was guaranteed in tbe room, the agreement being duly signed, and others no doubt .wiU-feome in.- .-Mr. Chew Cbong's intention is to make butter simply, and he is to procure at once two powerful separators.
