Larceny, Libel, and Perjury.

(per united press association.) ASHBURTON, June 27. About fifteen months ago a man named Toner was convicted of larceny of saplings out of the Alford Estate Company's bush. An article appeared in a Christchurch paper commeniin^ on the decision, and Mr. Herriug, the manager of the company's estate, replied in a letter, in regard to which Toner brought an action ior libel, and received £150. Mr. Herring now charges Toner and a man named Bullerant, who was with him on the occasion of the alleged larceny, with having committed perjury during the hearing of the libel action. Toner to-day was committed for trial, and Bullerant's case comes on to-morrow.
