•- (united press association.) WELLINGTON, June 30. The schooner Clematis, which went ashore on the '60 miles beach a fortnight ago, has been towed off to-day. AUCKLAND, Juue 30. At the Supreme Court, the case of perjury against Alexander Campbell, broke down ou a cuiious technical point. The indictment stated that prisoner had beeu sworn upon the Gospel oi Ged, but it transpired that he had taken the oath upon a Hebrew Bible, being a Jew, and this having been ruled not to be the Gospel's, the case broke down. Mrs. McPhee was convicted of sitting
fire to furniture in ber dwelling, and sentenced to two years imprisonmeut. CHRISTCHURCH, June 30. The Harbor Board decided to sell the dredging plant. The work of dredging the harbor will be completed early in August. DUNEDIN, June 30. At a meeting of subscribers to the Macandrew Memorial, a motion was proposed by the Premier and carried, that iSOO be devoted to a scholarship, and the balance of £238, be invested for 12 months, and then be devoted to a monument.
