ELECTION.
To the Editor oftht Star. Sir, — I notice in to-day's insue * local stating that several gentlemen are. bnsj taking round a petition, asking the electors to sign and pledge themselves to support Mr. McGuire at the forthcoming election. This, I consider, is asking the electors to take a jump in tbe dark : Ist, because Mr. McGuire has not publicly stated his views, and until he has done so, I trust that no elector will take such a suicidal step. Tbe only views he has pablicly made are on U^e New Plymouth breakwater, and if those are a fair sample of his skill *« a statesman, I fail to see That he is a fitting man to represent our district ; 2nd. No elector should pledge bis vote until after he has heard each candidate. Therefore, no person should pledge his vote until after tbe nomination day. For all we know, we may have several candidates to choose from. — I am, &c, Faib Plat.
