♦ (per united press association.) WELLINGTON, September 22. The Government have received a cable that the Admiralty have presented to the Colony the eight 64-pounder guns which Admiral Tryon lent during the war scare. The suns, along with the carriages, are valued at i'3oo each. Application was made to-day for a new trial in the libel action, Vogel v. Evening Press, but was adjourned until Wednesday next. September 23. John Telfar, who received concussion ot the brain through falling in Willis-st., died last night. The Governor has received a cable from the Prince of Wales, requesting the views of the New Zealand Government on the Imperial Institute proposal. The Governor replied to the effect that the Government heartily approve ot the proposal, and will join with the Governments of the neighboring colonies in taking the necessary steps to give effect to it. AUCKLAND, September 23. A six-roomed house at Avonclale, the property of Moriarty, a warder m the asylum, was burned down. Insurpd in the South British for £200; furniture, £50. The North New Zealand Farmers' Cooperative Association premises were destroyed by fire. Stock insured in the United office for £1300, and building for £300. The damage is estimated at £1000. DUNEDIN, September 22. Mr. Dick retires trom the Dunedin Central contest. Thomas Bracken is announced as a candidate. September 23. The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel (insured in the National for £150) was destroyed by fire. During the construction of the tail race at Black's, two nuggets, weighing two ounces and three ounces respectively, were found. A little girl named Agnes Fletcher, between three and four years old, was killed yesterday by being run over in the street by a cart.
