The Government have received a cable that the Admiralty have presented to the Colony the eight 64-pounder guns which Admiral Tryon lent during the war scare. The suns, along with the carriages, are valued at i'3oo each. Application was made to-day for a new trial in the libel action, Vogel v. Evening Press, but was adjourned until Wednesday next. September 23. John Telfar, who received concussion ot the brain through falling in Willis-st., died last night. The Governor has received a cable from the Prince of Wales, requesting the views of the New Zealand Government on the Imperial Institute proposal. The Governor replied to the effect that the Government heartily approve ot the proposal, and will join with the Governments of the neighboring colonies in taking the necessary steps to give effect to it.
