TUHUA GOLD.
WANGANUI, April 4. A meeting oi natives commenced at Koriniti on Monday to consider the question of allowing a European prospecting party to proceed into the Tuhua country, in which gold is alleged to have been found. A great korero was held on the subject, fully 800 natives being present ; but information as to the result is rather indefinite, owing to the distance from town and the incomplete communication with the place. Messages received are very conflicting, some reports being that the Tuhua natives object to let Europeans go through till consultation has been held witli Wahanui and the Waikato natives. Another statement, whioh is said to be reliable, is to the effect that Manaika and party have gone on to Ranana, where final arrangements will be made, and that the prospecting party will be taken right through. The matter is causing great excitement in town.
