Moera Hall

COMPLAINT BY MAORIS The Kindergarten Association, which has control of the letting or the Moera Hall, wrote to the Lower Hutt City Council on Monday night explaining why it had not let the hall to the'Maori Association, which complained recently that it had not been able to secure the hall on certain occasions. The Kindergarten Association stated that it had refused the use of the hall on Sundays as that was the only day on which it couid be cleaned, while there had been numerous complaints as to the state of the hall after it had been used for weeknight dances by Hie Maori Association. The Kindergarten Association had put the Maori Association on an equal footing with other bodies. Councillor B. Logie said that while she did not wish to belittle the work of the Kindergarten Association, which was doing a fine job, she could not agree that the hall had been left in a filthy condition, and she was concerned about the Maori Association being refused the use of the hall for a religious service on Sunday. As the Moera Hall was a community hall she did. not think the Kindergarten Association should have control of it. Other organisations should have equal rights. The matter was referred to the by-laws committee, which will report to the City Council.
