HUTT VALLEY Y.W.C.A.

annual meeting and social The annual meeting and social of the Hutt Valley Y.W.C.A. were well attended, and proved very interesting and happy. Mrs. C. Mackenzie presided. The Rev. Hugh Reid opened the meeting with prayer.

Among the guests were Mrs. 13. Richardson, Dominion President of the Y.W.C.A., and Miss A. Louise Burton, National General Secretary. The annual report was presented by Miss Beryle White, the newlyappointed Hutt Valley director, who was introduced and welcomed by Mrs. Mackenzie. The report stated that the financial membership was 155, but many more participated in the Association’s activities. The various clubs and classes, covering a wide range, had been successful, and sports had been entered into with enthusiasm. Thanks were extended to all who had helped the Association, and the hope was expressed that the coming year would see a great extension of the Association’s work in the Hutt Valley, where the need was great and the possibilities of expansion boundless. Miss Burton spoke on “Palestine as 1 saw it in 1947,” holding the close interest of her hearers as she told of conditions in a country on which the attention of the world is focused just now. Incidentally she mentioned that the Y.W.C.A. provides a meeting place in Jerusalem where Jew and Arab may forget their differences and find a common ground. Posies were presented to Mrs. Richardson, Miss Burton and Miss White, and a happy social time with supper concluded the evening.
