Mlt. OUXESPIE SEW PRESIDENT ANNUAL DINNER-MEETING The annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Chamber ot" Commerce and Industry took the form of a dinnermeeting in Eva Draper's studio, and was a very interesting and enjoyable gathering. Mr. K. K. Watts, the retiring president, presided over an attendance of about 100 members. In vacating the chair to Mr. N. T. Gillespie, the new president, Mr. Wans thanked members Tor past support and wished the Chamber success in its very important work. Mr. H. V.. Combs, M.P.. and representatives of the Wellington Chamber ol Commerce were warmly welcomed. Election of Officers The following officers were elected:— President. —Mr. N. T. Gillespie. Vice-president.—Mr. 11. D. Guthrie. Council.—General section: Messrs. 11. R. Beazley. J. R. Lamb, A. C. Brockelsby and C. E. Moran. Manufacturing section: Messrs. C. H. Griffin. T. G. McLaren, 1.. J. Donaldson, and E. A. Tomkies. Lower Hutt retailers: Mr. \V. Giltrap. Petone retailers: Mr. N. K. Davidson. Mr. K. K. Watts, as immediate past president, will i>e a member of the council.
Auditor.— Mr. A. Marshall. Interesting Add rcsses Interesting talks were a feature of the meeting. Mr. Gillespie gave an inspirits;; address on the relationship between employers anil employees and the nerd of the development of a spirit of service, and Mr. I. R. Robinson, engineer-general manager of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Hoard, spoke of the electric power position. The guest speaker was MajorGeneral Kippenberger, D. 5.0.. editor Of New Zealand War Histories, who gave intimate glimpses of military and other world personalities met during the war years.
