STOKES VALLEY RATEPAYERS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The following executive committee was elected at the annual meeting of the Stokes Valley Ratepayers' Association:—President. Mr. A. P. R. Henderson; vice-president, « .Mr. R. Kirkness; secretsiry-treasurer. Mr. V. H. Robinson; committee, Mrs. G. H Thomas. Messrs. C. W. Walters, L E. Neale, E. Rose, V. J. J. Purcell, and Si mm
The annual report showed a membership of 105 and a balance of assets over liabilities of £2 32/16/5. Owing to paucity of attendances at the Association's dances and dancing classes these activities were discontinued during the year. As a result of the Association's representations, a nightly bus service on weekdays and an extended Saturday service were instituted. Though this entailed some alteration to the increased day time-table secured earlier, the Association had kept the growing needs of the district continually before the bus authorities, and some considerable improvements had been effected. An inspection of the Valley was carried out by the new County Engineer and Councillor Pearce in company with Association representatives, and as a result aome of the more serious causes of complaint received attention. There continues to be dissatisfaction with the state of the roads and with the lack of footpaths, and these matters are being kept continually before the Council. It was stated that development in the Valley continues to be rapid, and already it has been necessary for the Association to bring to the notice of tiie authorities aspects of aubdlvisional practice ami planning which, if persisted in, would be detrimental to the future of the district. Direct representation on the local authority Is becoming increasingly desirable,. and this is a matter which should
receive the early attention of member,".
