TRENTHAM CAMP SCHEME
The Rehabilitation Department wrote to the Lower Hutt City Council recently thanking it for the attendance of its representative at the conference held on February 2Sth and while making it. clear that the Rehabilitation Committee had no executive powers in the matter repeated the assurance given at the conference that it would co-operate with local bodies in any way possible to ensure the success of the transit housing scheme, and advised that the following resolution was passed at the conference: "That, subject to the Government making available Trentham Camp, the local bodies be recommended to pledge themselves to ko uhend with the scheme immediately "
The finance committee of the City Council reported on Monday night that alter a full discussion on the matter it was resolved—" That the Lower Hull City Council will accept responsibility In connection with the tranr.it housing scheme at Trentham Gump, with the other local bodies concerned, but if the other local bodies are not prepared to enter into an Arrangement to undertake the scheme jointly the Lower Hutt City Council will proceed with the scheme by Itself." The Mayor reported that the Hutt County Council declined to have anything to do with the scheme. The Upper Hutt Borough Council may he prepared to administer it on behalf of .ill the local bodies concerned.
