The Hutt News Wednesday, April 16, 1947 YOUNG BUSINESS MEN
The talk given by M.;. '*■ ■'- Watts, president oi the New '-*■"••-• land Junior Chambers of Commerce, at a function held by the Hurt Vailey Junior Chamber, am! reported fully in the last issue ol the Hutt News, was as inspiring us it was interesting. It struck an optimistic and encouraging note m %'time when many local, national. .and international problems face the people. It indicated that many oi the [Voting men of the country are not.only alive to those problems but are eager and determined to solve them. It held up the ideal of service, of giving instead of always taking, of working for a happy and more contented people. The Junior Chamber, it was stated, stood for a spirit" of friendship l between :;i! men and the promotion oi community welfare.
ft is good to see the young business men realising their responsibility and taking their place with the older men in working for the good of the community in which thev live. They can do s«> much. Their enthusiasm, allied to the mellowed experience of those who have spent longer in public service, can bring about the success oi worthy causes and add to the amenities oi life. As stated by Mr. Watts, the next twenty or thirty years will see the young men ol today in control of affairs, whether they" like it or not, and the Junior Chamber of Commerce, as the only body in the world nationally organised by young men to train themselves civically and use that training for the benefit of the community will play an important part. That being so,, it is gratifying to find that its ideals are so high.
