.;. BELMONT BRANCH MEETS

The Belmont branch of the Women's Institute met on October Bth in the Red Cross Rooms. Mrs. Thompson presided over a wellattended meeting. Several new members were nominated, and birthday posies presented. Children of Greece will benefit substantially as the result of a collection of. warm clothing and soft toys. There was a magniiicent response.

Prizes were awarded as follows: The best soft toy, Mrs. Clifford 1, Mrs. Stickles, 2; best hand-knitted article, Mrs.-Melhuish; best handmade article, Mrs. Stickles. The Christie Cup for the best flower went to Mrs. Benfel.

The one-act play, "The Trumpet in the Dust," produced by Mrs. Bennett for the recent Drama Festival, and which gained second place, was staged. The cast included Mesdames Benfel, jun., Pye, McCaulay, and Dallenger, all members of the Belmont Drama Circle. Miss Maddever, travel group organiser, gave an interesting and entertaining description of the recent .tour to Napier, Waikaremoana, and Rotorua. STOKES VALLEY BRANCH A meeting of the Stokes Valley branch of the Women's Institute was held at the Red Cross Hall, Lower Hutt. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. E. Humey, and was combined with a very successful flower show. The points prize for the cut flowers section was won by Mrs. E. Burley; decorative section, Mrs. A. Freeman; shoulder spray, Mrs. A. Freeman. The Drama Circle presented a play reading entitled "In Waltz Time," by Phillip Johnson.
