SITE FOR AIR STRIP
iVORMANDALE AREA SUGGESTED At the last meeting of the reserves committee of the Lower Hutt City Council the report of the superintendent, Mr. E. Hutt, in connection with the proposed air strips in the Hutt Valley was received, and it was resolved to request the acting-Con-troller of Civil Aviation and his officers to contact Mr. Hutt, with a view to making an inspection of an area of land at Normandale, referred to in the superintendent's report as being a possible site for an air strip. It was also resolved to refer the superintendent's report to the Public Works Department, an<l the committee reported that the question of air strips is having further investigation by the committee. Committee's Good Work Cr. F. S. Hewer told the City Council that the reserves committee had given great consideration to the matter of air strips. Mr. Hutt, superintendent of reserves, was confident that a good strip could be made at Normandale. Cr. F. Lonsdale complimented the committee on the good work done. The objection to the Gear Island proposal came from the sports bodies. Air strips were essential, and if the Government spent £IO,OOO in developing them it was money well spent. The matter should be settled quickly.
Mr. Hutt reported that if Gear Island was chosen for the air strip he recommended that it should be on the eastern side of the stopbank.
