The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg,and Lady Freyberg paid a visit to Orr’s Nurseries at Lower Hutt last week. # * * The Prime Minister, Mr. P. Fraser, addressed workers at the Railway Workshops at Woburn during the luncheon hour on Thursday. * Sub-Lieutenant Paratene Bennett, R.N.Z.N.V.R., son of tb'e Bishop of Aotearoa, the Right Yen. F. A. Bennett, was a visitor to Lower Hutt last week. Sub-Lieutenant Bennett is the first member of the Maori race to gain a commission in the Navy. * * * Mr. Denis Mackisack has taken up his official duties as county secretary to the Hutt Valley and Bays Boy Scout organisation. # * * The Rev. A. V. Brown, formerly minister of the Baptist Church, Sandringham, Auckland, has taken up his appointment as minister of the Baptist Church at Lower Hutt. *= * * Mr. John Hogan, president of the Hutt Valley Junior Chamber of Commerce, has been elected one of the directors of the New Zealand Junior Chamber of Commerce. * * * Mr. F. J. Lenihan, formerly assistant borough engineer at Hamilton and'an engineer of the Public Works Department, has taken up duties as borough engineer of Upper Hutt. # * Owing to ill-health Mr. E. J. Carr has resigned from the secretaryship of the New Plymouth Returned Services Association after 24 years’ service.
