RECITAL IN HUTT
BRILLIANT YOUNG PIANIST Shirley Welch, the brilliant young pianist, whose farewell recital will be given in the King George Theatre next Tuesday night, has had a remarkable musical career, which must be an inspiration to all other young musicians in the Valley. Born in Lower Hutt, she received her education and musical training at Chilton St. James School. The following are some of her achievements: —In her R.C.M> examinations she has always achieved outstandingly high marks, twice gaining the highest in New Zealand. Last year she received her L.R.S.M. Diploma as a public performer. She has won many awards in the Wellington and Hutt Valley Competitions. As a result of her recent R.C.M. examination she was awarded a two-year scholarship at the Royal College of Music, London, and will leave early in July to continue her studies there.
