SUCCESSFUL CONCERT

CARNIVAL QUEEN FUNDS The St. John Ambulance Queen (Miss Claire Tremain), benefited as the result of a successful variety concert held in the Waterloo School Assembly Hall. During the interval an opportunity was tal<en by Mr. L. Hall, chairman, St. John Ambulance Committee, to introduce the Queen and one of her attendant princesses, to the audience. He also tendered the committee's thanks to the public for the support afforded and to the artists who had made such a first-class programme available. Ballets were presented by the pupils of Miss Vlvieime Piatt and Miss Valerie Holder. Seven-year-old David Hollander entertained with a clever selection from "David Copperfield." Recitations were also given by Barry Sievers and Jack Shearer. Vocal numbers were given by Valerie. Dobson, Marie Douglas and Jean Curtis, a free-style skating number by Lynnette Douche, a piano accordian solo by Keith Bradford, and an instrumental trio by the Lister Sisters. Mr. Owen Bonifant, tenor, rendered "The English Rose" and "Oh Promise Me" and Mrs. Bessie Anderson pleased with two humorous recitations in which radio personalities were impersonated. Other performers were Fay Featherstone, character dance; Hoffman Bros., character sketch; Phyllis Whitty, character dance; Elva "White dance; and Valerie Broughtou, "Hungarian Rhapsody." Two brackets of numbers were provided by the S.C.R. Choir. The accompanist was Mrs. T. Douglas.
