MOVE BY CITY COUNCIL Cr. Lonsdale told the Lower" Hutt City Council on Monday night that he was surprised to hear Mr. R, B. Hammond state at a recent meeting that no provision for air strips had been made in town planning plans, and the look of astonishment that crossed the faces of Mr. Semple and Mr. Nash when the matter was mentioned amazed him. With the development of aviation Cr. Lonsdale considered that air strips were very necessary in any scheme brought forward. In the United States'there were already 3000 small air strips, and it was planned that nearly 17,000 municipalities would have" air strips in the near future. In 30 years sports teams would fly to outside fixtures in small planes, and there would be tremendous developments in other branches of aviation. Cr. . Giesen visualised business, men flying to business in the future. Air strips were very necessary in town planning. It was decided that a deputation wait on the Minister of Works reregarding the provision of air strips in the Hutt Valley.
