KINDERGARTEN CAMPAIGN

ACTIVITIES IN HUTT VALLEY A most successful meeting, representative of the Eastern Hutt, Naenae, Epuni, Wohurn and Moera kindergarten districts was held recently. Mr. John Hogan presided and said it was very satisfactory after a fairly short period to know that parents in every part of the Valley were actively co-operating in the building campaign. It was agreed that the building committees would participate with the Kindergarten Association in the proposed Queen Carnival, and the Epuni Progress Association, represented by Mr. M. Glasspole, was invited to co-operate in this major effort rather than run a separate campaign. Miss M, Gorrie, superintendent of the Kindergarten Association, said that any arrangements to house kindergarten facilities in the projected new Epuni community hall would be only temporary, as such accommodation was regarded by the Association and the Department as most unsuitable. It was pointed out that Woburn, Moera and Waterloo had their sites arranged, but no site had yet been decided upon for Eastern Hutt. As regards the new housing area it was decided to approach the Government to ascertain exactly what provision had been made for kindergarten sites Now that most districts are takingpart, steps will probably be taken to form a central committee and invite the assistance of public bodies in the Valley within a few weeks. As soon as sufficient funds are in hand, half the amount required being provided by the a start will be made with the first new building where urgently required.
