DEPARTURE FOR AMERICA
LOWER HUTT WAR BRIDES Mrs. G. Calkins (Ruth Andrews), 'daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Andrews, Mayor and Mayoress of Lower Hutt, left for Auckland last week, to join the S.S. Monterey, on her way to the United States, where she will join her husband, Captain George Calkins, of the U.S. Marine Corps. Mrs. Andrews flew to Wellington from Christchurch to accompany her daughter to Auckland. Others from Lower Hutt who left by the Monterey were Mrs. R. Davis, (formerly Rita Ryan) and her small child, Mrs. J. Welch and a small son bound for Missouri, Mrs. J. Whitaker (a former school teacher whose Marine Corps husband is still in the service), ,and Mrs Schumacher (formerly Ngaire Cometti).
