MEETING IN LOWER HUTT

ADDITIONAL STREET LIGHTS Last, week's meeting of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Hoard was presided over by the chairman. Mr. H. Green. There were also present Messrs A. Walker, R. W. Bothamley, J. B. Yaldwyn, J. Huggan. J. Purvis, H. S. Dudding, P. Dowse, G. L. Giesen and J. J. Maher. Mr. 1. R. Robinson, engineer and general manager, and Mr. I-T. E. Mcßain, secretary, were in attendance. The Board’s solicitors notified that they had written to the Lower 1-1 till City Council regarding objections to the council's new rating assessment. There was no intention of questioning the amount, except that transformers had been included in the account. The Public Works Department fixed the Board's apportionment under the Wiremen's Registration Act. at £4B/5/2. The engineer and general manager reported regarding additional street lights. Lower Hutt had asked for 17 lights; ten had been erected, the location of six had not yet been decided on, and one point was already lit. Petone had asked for six. which had been put in. Upper Hutt wanted 20, of which ten could be granted without, difficulty, but it would be necessary to defer the others, owing to shortage of labour, etc. Permission to Generate. The District Electrical Engineer wrote that the Gear Meat Company had been granted permission to generate power. The company had an arrangement with the Government that when there was a great demand on the Government supply the company should run two Diesel engines at. the Government’s expense. The Electric Power Board and Supply Authorities Association wrote that the Minister was favourably disposed towards bringing down legislation regarding reticulation along the back of sections. The engineer said that the Auckland Power Board was also interested in this matter. Amending legislation was needed to absolve boards from responsibility for damage. It was decided that the original guarantee by the Wainui-o-mata Development Company be suspended, on account of the large number of consumers now in the area. This means that consumers will to the ordinary maximum rate. Mr Giesen said they had evsry reason to feel! pleased with this service, the extension of which had been more than justified. Good Work by Officers. The Auditor-General returned accounts of the Board for last, year certified correct. It. was decided to congratulate the officers concerned. On the motion of the chairman the Board passed the necessary resolutions for taking certain land as a. site for administrative buildings. Mr. Dudding said that he was against taking the land, which would some day be valuable as a business site. He moved that the City Council, which has a proclamation of the land, he notified of the Board’s intention. This was agreed to. Accounts amounting to £40,081 3/11 were passed for payment.
