Hutt River Board
new superannuation scheme ' SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION The last meeting of the Hutt Valley River Board was attended by Messrs F. s. Hewer (chairman), V. A. Draper, (!. S. Young and A. Maud; also Mr. C. Halford, secretary, and Mr. H. SI ad den, engineer. An apology for unavoidable absence owing to departmental business was received from Dr. B. J. Dudley. Prior to the meeting members had undertaken a tour of inspection of river works. The Housing Department notified that, something would be done regarding the clearing of Waiwhetu stream, about which complaints bad been received from the City Council and others. An agreement to clear the stream was entered into by the department some years ago, but the work had been delayed. The Soil Conservation and River Control Council asked permission to install a new type ol recorder, which, if found satisfactory, would be installed throughout New Zealand. The Board decided to cooperate with the Council. A summary presented by the secretary showed the Board to be in a sound financial position. Accounts amounting to £52 0/17/6 were passed for payment. It was decided to commence a superannuation scheme for the Board's employees, and the secretary was instructed to get the solicitor to draft a resolution in accordance with the Act. The chairman and secretary were authorised to go into the question of painting the Board's sheds, some of which are considered rather an eyesore, and make provision for a steel - covered cupboard for the Board's valuable plans.
