CHRISTMAS PARTIES
HUTT NATIONAL CLUB
The Christmas party held by the National Club in Lower Hutt was a great success, the rooms being crowded. The chairman, Mr. V. A. Pool, presented a report of the year's activities. An interesting address was given by Mr. C. Bowden, M.P. fo£ Wellington North, who stressed the necessity of providing not only full employment but jobs that would greatly increase production. Mr. Maurice Ralph acted as compere of a bright programme, the contributors to which were Mrs. Halligan (recitations), Miss Phaeibe Lawson (songs), Messrs J. Duncan (hum our(, Zachariah (stories) and Mr. Ralph (stories), Mr. Duncan led the audience in community singing. ROTARY CLUB ENTERTAINS The Lower Hutt Rotary Club's second Christmas party took place last week, over sixty children being entertained. The president, Mr. J. Jacques, presided. After carols had been sung and a film shown, Father Christmas appeared and 'distributed ice creams and sweets. Mr Neil Gillespie told the children the story of Snow Goose and a mayoung guests left, having thoroughly young uests left, having thoroughly enjoyed the party, they were pre-* sen ted with toys. CHRISTMAS PART 2 TO AID PLUNKET SOCIETY The Lower Hutt sub-branch of the Plunket Society held a very successful children's Christmas party in St. James's Hall, the proceeds going towards the provision of a fifth Plunket nurse, who will take up her duties early next year. A happy time was spent, the children being entertained by Mrs McCracken, Mr. B. O'Brien, Miss Vivienne Piatt's pupils, and others. The party was arranged by Mrs. J. A. Harris (president), Mrs. E. Cameron (secretary) and members of the committee.
