11. V. COMPETITIONS SOCIETY
The annual- meeting of the Hutt Valley Competitions Society was held last Thursday, evening .Mr. Maurice "Ralph presiding. Tlie annual report and balance sheet was adopted. The proposed amendments to the rules as circulated among the mßubers and recommended by the Rules Revision Commitee were adopted with -minor alterations. The secretary, Mr. J. V. Stevens submitted a drAft'circular letter to be sent to Hut't Valley residents soliciting their co-operation'.as members of the Society. The letter was approved. 1 It was, pointed out that it was- imperative that the membership should be increased to enable the society to function effectively and for the development o£ the arts in the district. . ; A motion of condolence with the family of Mr. B. S. Knox, one of the society's foundation members, who 1 died recently, was passed in silence. f The following officers were elected: Patron, Hon. Walter Nasb; vice patron, The Mayor, Mr. .T. W Andrews; immediate past patron, Mr. H. E. Coombs, M.P.; president" Mr. 11.. F. Muir; executive council. Mrs. S. Piatt and Messrs. W. Entwistle, W. f Gil trap, W. H. Smith, R. I). Smith, 11. B. Walierley; 'hon solicitor, Mr. E. ,F. Rothwell; hon. auditor, Mr. L.' V. .Phillips.
