Following upon the announcement| at the Junior Chamber of Commerce luncheon that war memorials embodying civic ameViities were preferable to monuments in stone or bronze, further details as to what /the "Jayeee' have in "jnind weregiven in a statement to the "Hutt News" by Mr, John Hogan. i ""As a result," says the statement,' of preliminary enquiries made from the N. B. Riley Free Kindergarten Association, the Education Department,. Health. Department, Department for Internal Affairs, and local authorities, it. was reported that probably £50,000 or more would be required to provide modern and well j equipped buildings for the purpose iti the Valley. It was suggested that there could be a central building near the main shopping centre providing Kindergarten, creche andj possibly Piunkct room facilities under the roof, and including a Hall of Remembrance, as the principal war memorial. Other buildings would be required to replace the unsatisfactory and inadequate premises at present used for kindergartens at iVloera, Woburn and Eastern Hutt, and to cater for the new housing areas. The planning of these would 1 involve co-operation with the plans of the Education Department and other public authorities concerned. If such a scheme were decided upon it would involve obtaining the cooperation of all public bodies in the Valley to raise half the amount, say £25.000, the balance being provided by the Government. .
