TAITA SCHOOL QUEEN CARNIVAL

Organised by'the , Taita Women's Auxiliary the Taita School Queen Carnival concluded with a crowning ceremony on Thursday, 16 th August, which attracted a record attendance to the Taita Hall. With a stage extension to accommodate 120 children upon whom four coloured spotlights were directed, the court scene presented an appearance of regal splendour as each princess with her retinue entered. Mr.. J. W. Andrews, (mayor of Lower Hutt), officiated, crowning Princess Elizabeth Gabites afe the Queen of the Carnival. The Princesses, Judith Jackson, Jillian Symonds and Glenna Barclay were then presented. Mr. Curtis,- chairman of the school committee, paid a special tribute to the Women's Auxiliary and their leader, Mrs. Knight for their magnificent effort in raising £866 in six weeks; to Mrs Gault for the,efficient training of the pupils; Mrs. Webb (choir); the four princesses committees and their hard wording secretaries; the headmaster and staff; Messrs Gault;..Hale, Knights, Gabitese, Anstis, Ben tidy, Walker, Pudney, Grimes and Browning; and all supporters who had helped, either with costumes, donations, transport. .

Other speakers Were Messrs H. E. Combs M.P., W. V; Dyer (chairman Education Board), Loewenthal, and McDonnell. The proceeds will be devoid to establishing a. good library, providing sports equipment, and improving the play area. ;
