NATIONAL CANDIDATE FOR THE HUTT

With the prospects of a General Election in just over twelve months' time, the National Party is concentrating all its efforts on organisation and is finding a greater keenness amongst its members than has been the case for some months. At a recent meeting of the Hutt Electorate committee the chairman stated that with the membership .figures increasing every day it is Hoped that the goal of 2000 members in the Hutt Electorate will be reached in a short time. The reason why there must be 2000 financial members in the Electorate is that the constitution of the Party states — "Any Electorate having on its roll a financial membership of-over 2000 qualified electors may proceed at any time with the selection of a candidate for the next election.". The selection is carried out by the sound democratic system of each twenty electors choosing a delegate who will attend the selection committee meeting to be addressed by the prospective parliamentary candidates. Recently, in Dunedin North, the selection of Mr. Norman Jones was made from seven men offering themselves, and the result of the by-election showed what an excellent 'candidate had been chosen.
