The monthly meeting of the League of Mothers was held in the Wesley Hall on Thursday, lOtth May, the day following V.E Day. The president, Mrs Liebezeit, occupied the chair, and opened the meeting : b asking those present to stand and sing the Doxology.

The hall was gay with flags and bunting, and the stage was beautifully decorated with red, white and blue flowers. A strong feeling of thankfulness, joy and gratitude peryaded the meeting. 'All joined in singing "God Defend New Zealand"

It was announced that the June meeing would include an "Admission Service." Items were given by the choii and by Mrs. Cooper who contributed two delightful songs.

Mrs Lowe gave as the "Thought for the Month": "O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good, and His M.eicy endureth for ever."

Ihe guest speaker was Misfe Hursthcuse, Activities Secretary, Y.W.C.A., v/bc gave much food lor thought in lier exceptionally; broad outline of the problems of the world to-day. She stressed the confusion in the nv'nJs o!' the young who had grown up with a background of great emotion?, laUßhter and tears, of mourning for those fallen in battle, of the chic lie btate of Europe and of distrust e\<?n among the Allies themselves. And now that in Europe -at least, there had come an end to destn-ction, and the-task of rebuilding was about to begin, she asked how could Vie, as individuals, help to achieve world peace. Each one of us iuusf accept responsibility to this tremendous task, and decide the right method of ensuring that all o.aukind has sufficient food and shelter and maximum freedom. Instances were given of how maximum freedom for one might mean less fredom for another, but by compromise and toleration in all things, particularly in personal differences of opinion and national characteristics (remembering the world was full of opportunities for misunderstanding), and by striving to overcome fundamental evils according to Christian teaching, could we hope to bring about progress in Civilisation and World Peace. A vote of thanks to the speaker was carried by acclamation and a very inspiring meeting closed with the singing of "Jerusalem" by the choir, followed by "Land .of Hope and Glory," in which all members joined. The meeting ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
