WATER HEATING
<s> , As a mean of conserving electricit} the Electricity Controller has ordered that meters must bfe used to measure current for water-heating. Thi? means that the Hutt Valley Board must arrange for 4191 water heating installations, which are now on a fla< rate, to be supplied through a meter. At the meeting of the board last week Mr. E. F. Hollands said th work would have to be spread over a long peribd owing to manpower shortages. He had therefore divided the district into seventeen areas and proposd that the order in which the work should be done should be de cided by ballot. In the ballot No. 17 was drawn from the hat first and No. 1 last. Mr. J. J. Maher said he . thought metering for water heating was a breach of agreement with the farmers who had installed plaints on dairy ifarms. ' 1 It would mean that water-heating, essential on farms, would be more costly. In deference to this view it was decided that dairy farm installations should not for the present be altered.
