Y.M.C.A.
The general secretary's report for May shows a decided increase in the active membership of the association. The classes are all going well and keen interest is being maintained in all groups. Football teams are now playing each Saturday morning at Strand Park, and a new Chess Club has been formed. It is hoped that in the near future a boxing class and a leadership training course will be started The spiritual side of the lives of the young people is not being neglected, and the devotional classes are well attended, great interest being shown. The Youth Work Committee has jplanned a comprehensive programme for the remainder of this year. The following are some of the highlights: July: Half-yearly show of work at Petone and Waterloo. Song service at Petone Y.M.C.A. August: School holiday programme. Family night and picture evening. September: Games night and indoor athletics' championship. Song service, Waterloo Y.M.C.A. Intergroup table tennis championships.
October: Inter-group visits. Gymnasium championships. Test for the best all-round girl or boy in the Hutt Valley Y.M.C.A. in such activities as essay writing, entertaining the group, book reading, prepared debates, Scripture memory, and debates. The prize will be a new cup presented this year and additional to the cups presented annually to the best boy and girl at Waterloo and Petone for gymnasium work, etc. November: Gymnasium display. Wind-up for year in each group. December: Summer camp. MEN'S BASKETBALL. The men's basketball competition is in full swing with 18 teams takings part, divided into three groups. In all about Kit) players participate in the matches, which are held at the Petone Y.M.C.A. on Wednesday evenings. Here is. how the teams .stand after four rounds: A Grade: Y.M. Gym. 8, Hoboes fi, Police 4, Rangers 4, Hutt Soccer 2, Moera Stop Out 0. B Grade: Petone Hockey 8, Aces S, Y.M.D. 4, Petone Boxing 2, Hoboes B 2. Youths' Grade: Petone Hi Y A 5, Waterloo Hi Y 4, Moera Stop Out A 4, Petone Hi Y B .3, Petone Boxing 0, Moera Stop Out B rt.
