LEADING SEAMAN H. TRIPLOW MENTIONED IN DISPATCHES

News has been received that Leading Seaman H. Trip'low of the R.N.Z.V.R., son of Mr. and Mrs. \V. J. Triplow of Railway Avenue, Lower Hutt, has been mentioned in Dispatches for gallentry. The citation states: — "For meritorious devotion to duty under adverse circumstances while serving as a member of the crew of a corvette, which participated in an engagement with a Japanese submarine near Guadalcanal Island on the night of January 29th and 30th, 1943. "Triplow displayed remarkable coolness and efficiency in manning a machine gun during dangerous close quarter fighting. He courageously remained at his exposed battle station laying fire on the enemy submarine with such accuracy aa to prevent its crew from successfully manning its armament. His action contributed directly to the beaching and ultimate destruction of the enemy craft. His conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the Naval Service."

' Leading Seaman Tripfl'ow is very well known in Lower Hutt and was educated at Hutt Central School and Petone Technical College. He was keenly interested in Sport, particularly tennis and hockey, in which he actively participated until he joined the R.N.Z.V.R. in 1939.
