NEW CATHOLIC SCHOOL
The garden party held in the grounds of the newly acquired Catholic School, mared an epoch in the annals of the parish. The property in Wainui Road, which formerly belonged to Mr. D. S. Patrick, comprises a commodious dwelling, and beautifully laid out grounds, consisting of four and a half acres surrounded by magnificent trees. The garden party was hetld as a "housie warming," and also to help defray the cost of purchase.
The Waiwhetu Church hall was for many years used as a school for children up to the second standard, but with the rapid increase of the district, has proved inadequate to house the large number who attend.
Archbi'sthop O'Shea, who was 'introduced by the parish priest, Father L. Daly, said he considered the acquisition of the school an occasion for rejoicing, and congratulated the pai'ish on their initiative. Generations of children would' receive a Christian education at the school, and that training would fit them to be g;ood Christians and Catholics, said his Grace.
The Hutt Municipal Band played throughout the afternoon. Mr. M. McWilliama acted as chairman, Mr. T. Behrens as secretary, and Mr J':. Stewart as treasurer.
