GRACEFIELD SCHOOL FETE
A highly successful fete held at the Uracefield School on Saturday afternoon was opened by Mr. H. E. Combs', M.P., who paid a tribute to the carnival committee for its energetic effort to raise funds for a swimming bath, which will be a welcome addition to the modern school erected only two years ago. Mr. Combs also introduced the four carnival Queen candidates, Jean Alexander (GreenJ, Pauline Hammington (Red), Una Claridge (Yellow) and Anne Pollock (Blue). Already individual efforts, given by the various queen committees, have produced very good results, and these will be continued for another month until the crowning ceremony.
Excellent business was done at the stalls and sideshows, and two great attractions were the puppet show, given by Mrs. O. S. Heymanu, and a show of over 40 babies, judged by Mrs. B. J. Dudley, with Jill 11 herd the winner.
The governing committee, which includes representatives from each queen committee, comprised Mr. H. Wakeley (chairman), Mrs. W. Melville (secretary-treasurer), and Mesdames A. Dingwall, R. Pollock, and Messrs. J. Callaghan and T. Masterton.
