The Y.M.C.A.
IN WORI/D-WIDE SERVICE TO-BAY In its long history the Y.M.C.A. has been one of the first institutions called upon in time Of national or civic contingency, to serve the community. Its record is <well known, and wlren on the outbreak of the war it was appointed national expending agency for £he National Patriotic Fund Board overseas, confidence in its past achievements and service was being reiterated and expressed.
To-day, in every military and Air Force camp, as well as in those important industrial undertakings still deemed urgent, its huts are being manned and conducted for the enjoyment of our men. Overseas our New Zealand secretaries are in every theatre of war and attached to the English and Canadian Y.M.C.A.'s for war service, while here in New Zealand the local associations are making a splendid contribution to camp life in many and various ways.
In those momentous but anxious and perilous times in which we are living, the citizens of the Hutt Valley will realise that the association's specalised work for boys must bo maintained. Many fathers and elder brothers are away-—there is a greater need than ever for the Y.M.C.A. on the home front. Youth work is one of the greatest of our responsibilities to-day, and it is for this purpose that your practical sympathy is solicited by the Hutt Valley Y.M.C.A. for its Street Day on Friday, 17th October. The association is engaged in character building, and the community's help should make a precious investment with dividends in character. WHAT !S A BOY? A person who is going to carry 011 what yoif have started. He is to sit. where you have been sitting and to attend to things which you think so important, when you are gone. You may adopt all the policies you please, but how they will be carried out depends on him. Even if you make leagues and treaties, he will have; to manage them. He will take your seat in Parliament, assume control of your cities, states and empires. Tie is Roing to move in universities, corporations, /councils and prisons. All your work is going to be judged and praised or condemned by him. The future and destiny of humanity are in his hands, so it might be as well to pay him a little attention now. The Y.M.C.A. is serving the "boys" 011 the War front. Help them with youth on the Home front. Forward your cheque to the treasurer of the Hutt Valley Y.M.C.A., Cuba Street. I'etone.
