Civic Service
METHODIST CHURCH *. ■ ' At the invitation of the minister of the church and the office-bearers, His Worship the Mayor and City Councillors attended Divine service in the Mdthodint Church On Sunday evening. The service was a Civic one, in keeping with the special nature of the. occasion, and was conducted by the Rev. Fredk. J. Parker. The Scripture lesson was read by His Worship the Mayor. The solo, "Not Understood," was sung by Mr. E. A. Surtees, while the church choir, under the conductorship of Mr. R. E. Lavin, sung the anthem "Incline Thine Ear and Come Unto Me." Mr. Parker spoke on the subject "And behold a man with a measuring line in his hand," showing how the world's standard is the standard of the measuring line while the Christian standard is the standard of Faith, which is measureless, and went on to speak of the Civic message within the subject. After the service the visitors were the guests of Rev. and Mrs. Parker and the executive of the Ladies' Guild, supper being served in new church parlour, when His Worship the Mayor took the opportunity to express thanks to the minister and all concerned for tho splendid service arranged.
